CHALLENGING BOSS BATTLES

In October 2008, Developer, Kevin Calderone released Trace (A fun and innovative concept for the iPhone and iPod Touch). The game was fun, and had quite a bit of content for something that was free. Kevin's new game, Gomi, which was recently released, shows overall an improvement in his developing and renders him a more prominent developer than he once was.
Gomi is about a little creature named Gomi, who assumes a similar role to that of Keanu Reeves or Michael Rennie in "The Day The Earth Stood Still": to rid the world of humans and their pollution, and to do as the game mainly quotes, "Make the world Beautiful". While the story is rather creepy and controversial, this game is still fun and very child friendly.
The gameplay is what makes this game great. The player rolls his Gomi around like he would with a Rolando, and collect items in order to discrete seeds that grow trees, flowers, and bushes, which is relative to the Katamari Damacy series with a De Blob theme to it: the more your Gomi eats, the bigger he is able to eat. The problem here is that the Gomi does not grow at all after he consumes, so it's harder to know what he can and cannot eat. The levels in the game are set up quite like Super Mario Galaxy containing several "planets", each with their own force gravity. The player can jump from planet to planet if they are close to each other, or get shot from a water spring to get to more far away planets in the level.
The game's story mode has the player play through 8 worlds, each with a completely different environment. Each world has five levels and each of those levels have three sublevels, except for the boss levels which only have two sublevels. A level is a basic map, while it's sublevels are just different objectives. The Objectives include:
If you've ever played Katamari games on the consoles, and you were commanded to roll up 100 to 1000 paper swans, this will be familiar to you. If you haven't, this objective basically requires the player to collect a number of small objects. The objects vary due to the environment you're in.
If you've ever played Payback on the same system, you will be familiar with this objective. You basically have to race to each checkpoint as fast as you can.
Eat as much as you can in a two minute time period.

In this mode, a disaster is caused by humans, whether it's intentional or by accident, and it's up to Gomi to stop it before more damage is caused.
Same thing as boss mode but harder and more fast paced.
Unlike Kevin's last game, Trace, the sublevels of Gomi take about three to seven minutes to complete, instead of just ten to fifteen seconds. Calderone has also added an online leader board for high scores on any of the objectives, which helps boost the replay value. The game also contains eight many games (like match three or chain reaction) which would normally have to be purchased separately in the appstore, making this game an activity pack as well as a full length game. There are also three save game files and tons of unlocked content, such as five of the eight mini games, and a list of colors, shapes, and special abilities, in which the player can use to fully customize his Gomi. This game is basically a total content burger, as well as a fun game.
The graphics are sub par and don't really define the iPod Touch/iPhone's capabilities like Rolando 2 or 2XL Supercross, but the bright and cheery color scheme is bound to put a smile on the player's face.
And the graphics are best the way they are, seeing as if the gameplay was displayed with high quality graphics, and showed the humans being devoured in high detail, the game definitely would not be as "Child friendly" as it is. Although, there could have been animations to the people moving. The only things moving in each level is the Gomi, water springs, fire, oil springs, or something of that criteria.
Besides a great ambient sound track, there really isn't much to the sound, besides the Gomi jumping, plants growing, and the occasional water spring spraying noise if the player uses it for travel. Despite not having many sounds, they are all of great quality, and due to the music, there is never a silent moment in the game.
The player controls the Gomi just as he would a Rolando. tilt the device to roll, and touch the screen to jump. The only differences are that tapping the Gomi will execute his special ability, and the Gomi rolls a little slower than the Rolando. The Gomi is really easy to control, and everything obeys physics quite well.
No crashes, no lags. It's very smooth and stable
This is one of few games that are worth more than they cost. It's a total bargain for the price of $1.99
I give this game a 9.3. Despite a few minor inconveniences, this game really doesn't have any flaws. It is executed well, and is packed with content and fun. It's bound to stay on anyone's iDevice for a long time. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes platform games.
